Evening Showcase Artist
Kelsey Merkle
Faces are important to every person’s social interaction. If something is “off” about a portrait; we know it instantly, which is why a good portrait is so challenging. There is nothing Kelsey loves better than the challenge of expression and movement in the human form and face. The eyes in a portrait tell the story more than any other, and it is typically where she likes to start.
Body language expresses an unspoken visual communication; color shapes, and texture also play a roll. Rather than create traditional, more stilted portraits; Kelsey uses shiny mediums, fun colors, flowers and shapes to bring my muses to life. The mirror often doesn’t reflect how someone feels they look. Kelsey’s goal is to give her clients the “selfie” they long for.
While she was earning two degrees, Illustration and Visual and Creative Arts, from Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario Canada, she was featured as one to watch in Applied Arts Magazine. Kelsey’s studio is in Western NY. She loves Korean dramas, Puppies and Deadpool. Swedish Fish remain the only seafood she will eat.
